What Counts as an Eye Emergency?

What Not to Do During an Eye Emergency
When you’re experiencing an eye emergency, your first instinct may be to act quickly, but some actions can actually do more harm than good. Here are critical steps not to take while waiting for professional care:
- Do not press on the injured eye or allow the person to rub their eyes.
- Do not attempt to remove a foreign object embedded in or resting on the cornea (the clear front surface of the eye).
- Do not use dry cotton, cotton swabs, or sharp tools like tweezers near the eye.
- Do not try to dislodge anything that is embedded in the eye yourself.
