Gentle Care for Growing Eyes

Healthy vision plays a huge role in how children learn and develop. We provide age-appropriate, child-friendly exams designed to keep your kids engaged with their eye health.

Our team is here to support your family, from your baby’s first visit to school-age checkups and beyond. Vision develops rapidly in the early years, so it’s essential to start early. Early exams help us catch issues like amblyopia (lazy eye) or myopia (nearsightedness), which can be easier to manage when caught young.

Regular visits help us stay on top of your children’s eye health. Book their next eye exam today!

How Often Does My Child Need an Eye Exam?

We recommend a first eye check at 6 months, even if there aren’t any signs of concern. From there, we suggest an exam around age 3, followed by annual visits once they start school.

Every child is unique, and your child’s eye exam schedule will be personalized to their needs.

The Vision & Learning Connection

A large part of classroom learning is visual, from reading and writing to recognizing shapes and copying from the board. Vision plays a key role in how kids understand and engage with their world. When their vision is blurry or unfocused, it can appear to be a learning or attention issue, but it may actually be a vision problem.

During every eye exam, we look beyond just eyesight. We assess how your child’s eyes move, work together, and focus at different distances. Supporting healthy vision means giving your child the tools to feel more confident, focused, and ready to learn.

What Is Myopia & Why Does It Matter?

Myopia, or nearsightedness, is a condition where distant objects appear blurry. It can often show up in school-aged kids and tends to progress as they grow. In recent years, myopia has become more common, in part due to more time indoors and on screens.

Why does it matter? Myopia can affect how your child sees the board, participates in sports, and navigates daily life. More importantly, higher levels of myopia can increase the risk of eye diseases later on. That’s why we offer myopia control options to help slow its progression and protect your child’s long-term vision.

What Is Amblyopia?

Amblyopia, often called “lazy eye,” is a vision development disorder where one eye fails to achieve normal visual acuity, even with prescription glasses or contact lenses. This usually occurs because the brain starts to favour the stronger eye. It often shows up without obvious symptoms and can develop as early as infancy or toddlerhood.

Early detection is crucial. If amblyopia is caught young, while the visual system is still developing, it’s much more treatable. During your child’s exam, we’ll carefully screen for signs of amblyopia and walk you through the next steps if any concerns come up.

What to Expect During a Children’s Eye Exam

Going to the eye doctor can feel overwhelming for kids. Our team takes time to make each visit friendly and relaxed for the entire family. We’ll begin by talking about your child’s health, development, and any signs you’ve noticed, like squinting or holding books too close.

Depending on your child’s age, we’ll check for things like visual acuity (how clearly they see), eye movement, depth perception, and how the eyes work together. For babies and toddlers, we use age-appropriate methods that don’t rely on reading letters or answering questions. Everything is designed to be gentle, supportive, and low-pressure.

Healthy Eyes Start Young

Caring for your child’s vision means more than checking a prescription. It means listening, guiding, and growing alongside your family.

Book your child’s eye exam today. We’ll help protect their vision, now and into the future.
